I resisted this book for a whle because it looked like it may be a bit too advanced. In my mind, “Radical Brewing” referred to such tricky brews as lambics, high-gravity ales and lagers. I was also afraid there’d be little in here for the extract brewer.
I was wrong on all counts. Certainly, this fantastic book covers all of those topics, but it also delves into using exotic ingrediants like ethnic sugars and fruits and recommending ways to really punch up your brews. Most importantly, Radical Brewing covers a topic I had long wanted to explore - creating my own recipes. While it doesn’t walk you completely through the task of developing your own recipes, it provided enough inspiration and information to allow me to experiment, which is one of the greatest joys of homebrewing.
I wouldn’t recommend this book to beginners, but once you’ve gotten one or two brews under your belt, this is a worthwhile volume to explore.
