Some Thoughts and Anticipation

At about 1:30 this morning, I decided to just get the friggin’ ball rolling and announce Mob #0. Mob #1 is still a good idea and one I want to carry out, but I’m thinking it may be wise to start with something that will give folks a chance to meet, see who else is in on this whole thing, and get excited for something more. I’m also about 60% through the site I’m building to support the future formations of mobs. If you’re not already on the SFBA Mob list… well, why the hell not? Get signed up. In the mean time, spend the weekend grabbing your fanciest gear together: the first mob will be on TUESDAY. And, by the way, I leave the interpretation of the word “fancy” up to you. Dress to impress or dress to distress, it’s your call.

What I have found most interesting about this whole thing so far is the reaction I have received. There are now about 150 people on the list, and it grows steadily day by day. I’m positively amazed at the reception this idea has gotten. Looking at the referer links on the front page of this site, I’m seeing folks blogging the mob thing from around the world. I’ve read comments on LiveJournal sites that run along the lines of, “You’re damn right I’m doing this!” I’m all big talk about community and stuff, but I really mean it: I think we may be seeing the formation of an instant, diverse community of folks who are eager to do some cool things. I’m ecstatic.

So, take heart and watch your emails on Tuesday morning. And, if you’re not signed up, just plop your email in the box I’ve placed at the top of the homepage. No non-mob mail, no spreading of your email, no bad spammer juju. Just good, clean fun.
