This weekend I bought a SiPix StyleCam Blink II digital camera (Fry’s Electronics, $39.99 + tax) because some of us aren’t lucky enough to have a camera/phone/PDA (Yeah, I’m kinda jealous…). The SyleCam can produce images at a maximum size of 640×480. Not too shabby for a camera so small you can inhale it.
I’m not thrilled with the picture quality, but, as Dani reminds me, what should I expect for $40? Well, frankly, I expect this technology to soon be so solid that, within the next year or two, a camera this size can produce printable images of better-than-decent quality. For now, though, it’s perfect for blog images. The only downside is that I need to carry its USB cable (non-standard, of course) around with me if I hope to upload the images to the web. A perfect combo in this case would be a Bluetooth-enabled phone with a Bluetooth-enabled Blink II. Upload through the phone to the web, jot something down for a caption: instant blog. But if I were to do that, I may as well just get a camera phone.
Damn you, Verizon, GET WITH THE PROGRAM! Camera phones for all! Not just for those who can afford your $400 PDAs!
