Spammers are vultures

Here’s the deal: I placed my name, resume and email address on several job sites, including Monster, HotJobs, and Dice. I posted in those places in hopes that employers looking for someone with my skills would find and contact me.

Instead, I’m getting spam from other job search sites and from “job placement services”.

I did NOT sign up to receive these emails. If you run a job site and want to spam me, try sending me some actual leads along with the spam, proving to me that, indeed, your site has what you claim it does. If you are sending me an email for “an amazing offer” to aid me in my search for the “low price” of $100 or more you are scum.

All of these people are taking advantage of folks who are currently between jobs. A large number of us are out of work because our companies either let us go or simply went out of business. We are on a budget limited to whatever we have left in savings plus our severance, which is far less then it once was. Companies that send these emails and take money from job hunters are like vultures to carrion. I, for one, will not let you pick my bones.

I plan on pursuing action against these spammers. I’ll start with the simple “Please do not send me any more emails”. For those merely advertising their job sites, I’ll send my suggestion that they not spam me without at least sending me some leads they found on their site. If I receive a second round of spam from any of these people, I will take it up with their ISP and, perhaps, pursue legal recourse in accordance with the State of California’s anti-spam laws as well as federal telecommunications laws.

I’m unemployed. I have a lot of time on my hands. Now is not a good time to be sending me spam.
