Attention Daily Cal alumns from 1995-1997

Posted July 18th, 2002

OK, I’m so very out of the loop on life. I have the nastiest habit of falling out of touch with folks who I REALLY care about. It’s not so much selfishness or lack of desire, it’s just laziness, pure and simple. I’m a crappy friend in that manner.

Occasionally, I’ll think of someone from my past whom I’d like to talk with again and see where they are. If I’ve lost touch, the best bet is to Google them. Case in point…

The name “Risa” popped up in a news article I was reading and it reminded me of Risa Goldberg. When I started at the Daily Cal, Risa was my first editor. Daily newsrooms are always one step away from total chaos. The pressure of deadlines, getting a scoop and being first on the scene of the story keeps everything running at a harried pace. In the maelstrom of all this confusion, Risa demonstrated unwavering patience with me and gave me the encouragement I needed to get going. In essence, a major factor in my love for the Daily Cal was Risa’s patience, guidance and good nature. She was such a sweetheart. When she lost the election for the position of Editor in Chief, she was robbed. The guy who got it was certainly competent and an all-around good guy, but I like to think that, had Risa gotten the job, the paper would have been elevated to a much higher status than the quagmire it fell into amidst the affirmative action debates raging throughout the UC system. The Daily Cal is still a good paper, but I think it could have been so much more.

So, I Googled Risa today. What came back was a website built sometime around October of 2001 hosted on a Stanford server that consists of nothing but a handful of pictures of a newborn girl. The owner of the site is Risa Jessie Goldberg. The newborn’s name is Sophie Rachel Morris. When I knew her, Risa was very serious with a great guy named Greg. For the life of me, I don’t remember his last name, but “Greg Morris” sounds about right. The very first picture shows the mom and her child, and the mother looks VERY much like the Risa I know. So, it’s not a big mystery — I’m 99 percent certain this is her — but I would love to drop her an email to say “hello”, “congrats” and “what’s up”. Problem is, the page is SUPER simple — nothing but pics. Absolutely no contact info.

So, I’m asking my loyal viewers (yes, both of you): do you know who Risa Goldberg/Morris is? Do you know how I can contact her? If you have any information to her whereabouts, I’d love to yap with her again. If you have such information available, please let me know.
